Overview

Many devices now use Private (Random) MAC Addresses when connecting to networks. At Whittier College, disabling private (randomized) MAC addresses can be helpful in some cases—especially to avoid re-registering your device when connecting to the "Poets" Wi-Fi network.

Follow the steps below to disable private (randomized) MAC addresses for your device:


Apple Devices

Mac (macOS Sequoia or later):

  1. Click the Apple Menu and select System Settings.

  2. Choose Wi-Fi from the sidebar.

  3. Click the Details or More Info button next to the "Poets" network name.

  4. In the menu next to Private Wi-Fi Address, select Off.

iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:

  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Select Wi-Fi.

  3. Tap the information (ℹ️) button next to the "Poets" network.

  4. Toggle Private Address to Off.

Apple Watch:

  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Select Wi-Fi.

  3. Tap the "Poets" network name.

  4. Toggle Private Address to Off.


Android Devices

  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Go to Network & Internet.

  3. Select Wi-Fi.

  4. Tap the "Poets" network to configure it.

  5. Select Advanced.

  6. Go to Privacy.

  7. Choose Disable Randomized MAC.


Windows Devices

  1. Click the Start button and select Settings.

  2. Go to Network & Internet and select Wi-Fi.

  3. Click Manage known networks.

  4. Select the "Poets" network.

  5. Click Properties.

  6. Turn off the toggle for "Use random hardware addresses for this network".


By following these steps, you can ensure smooth connectivity to the "Poets" Wi-Fi network at Whittier College without needing to re-register your device.
